LONDON WEEKEND BREAKS - London City Tours

If you have not visited London before, or if you want to see a different side of London on your weekend break, then an organised tour may be an option worthy of consideration.

A tour of London can take a variety of different forms, both in the transportation method used and in the itinerary and the theme of the tour schedule itself.

Below is a brief summary of the London tour options available and the kind of experience that each can offer, but for more information, select a tour type from the main menu to the left, or check out the advertisers on this and other pages.

Tour transportation methods

You can tour London by bus (open topped if desired), or take a guided bicycle tour around some of the less accessible wheeled access routes.

A walking tour is very popular and these on-foot tours can be centred around a particular part of the city, or themed on a subject like the monarchy, or even ghosts and haunted buildings and streets. The latter being popular at night.

River boat tours, which are really outings down the Thames, also offer a different perspective on London’s riverside architecture and, if you want something really different, you can take an aerial tour of London by plane.

London tour availability and what you get

There are an ever increasing number of companies offering tours of London and it is usually possible to find a tour that caters for just about any visitor’s sightseeing objectives. If you look around this and our other tour related pages on London Weekend Breaks, you will see ads and links by companies offering a vast range of guided tours and themed trips around the city.

If you want a general sightseeing trip around the city, then a bus tour usually crams in more and at a cheaper rate than any other option. Bus tours also usually allow you to hop on and off the bus if you see something that you want to take a closer look at, so they can easily be customised on the day.

If however you want a more intimate view of London, or if you want to see a few highlights that are off the regular beaten track, then a walking or cycling tour may be more to your liking. This type of tour is more hands on, but does require some exercise.

River boat tours often include refreshments or a full meal and they take a more leisurely approach to seeing the path of the city, as traced by the Thames. These tours are popular on a bright sunny day, but less so on dull winter days.
