LONDON WEEKEND BREAKS - City Parks and Gardens

One of the big surprises of London is the number of parks and gardens that the city contains.

This means that you are never far away from an area of tranquillity and relaxation and this makes London great if you want to escape the busy shops and sightseeing attractions and get back to nature.

Although most London weekend breaks are fairly hectic - do all that you can do visits - taking in one of London's parks is certainly worth the effort. In Spring and summer many of these parks are filled with flowers, but they look good all year round and during weekday lunchtimes they are flooded with city workers who escape the office for an hours solitude and relaxation.

Many of London's parks like Regents Park and St. James' Park have no modern day association with a house or property, but other parks make up part of an estate and in some cases you may have to visit the house in order to reach the gardens.

In certain instances there may be a charge for this. Even so, many parks are municipally owned and anyone can walk around them, sit in them or buy some refreshments from one of the cafes or stands in the park.

Below we have provided a fairly comprehensive list of all of the London and Greater London Parks that you are likely to encounter on a weekend break visit.

It is hard to pick favourites and generally the park that you visit will be the one that fits into a time slot and location in which you find yourself in, but major parks like St. James' are hard to fault and difficult to beat.
